About PowerWool

PowerWool grew out of a long family legacy in the building supply business, with Ross Power as the third-generation leader carrying that tradition into modern mineral wool insulation. Today, as President of PowerWool Insulation, Ross combines decades of family experience with a drive to innovate and improve building products.

Roots in the Power family
The story begins with Ross’s grandfather and grandmother, Patrick and Renee Power, who owned and operated Pat Power Lumber Building Supplies in Coquitlam, British Columbia. They opened their lumber yard in 1954 on Lougheed Highway and ran it until its sale in 1971, establishing the customer-first values that still define the family’s businesses. Ross’s late father, Myles Power, continued that legacy by owning and operating MJ Power Building Supplies in Western Canada until it was sold in 2009.

A family of lumber and building suppliers
Ross grew up surrounded by lumber yards, wholesale yards, and manufacturing operations run by his large extended family—his father Myles was one of 17 children. Many of Ross’s uncles launched and ran their own “Power” businesses in lumber and building materials. Steve Power started PowerWood, a lumber business now majority owned by his son Jake, and was also a founding partner of PowerHouse Building Solutions. Other uncles, including Pat Power Jr. (Pat Power Forest Products), Martin Power (Mid Valley Lumber Specialties), Bernie, and Emmett, all played active roles in the lumber and building supply industry, further deepening the family’s reach and expertise.

PowerHouse Building Solutions
Carrying this heritage forward, Ross opened PowerHouse Building Solutions Inc. in 2005 with his Uncle Steve. Based in Western Canada, PowerHouse operates as a wholesale building products distributor focused on supplying high-quality materials and reliable service to builders and contractors. This venture gave Ross direct, hands-on experience with what builders needed on job sites and where existing products were falling short, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency and building envelope performance.

The birth of PowerWool
Around 2015, Ross recognized a clear gap in the mineral wool insulation market: there was limited competition and room for a higher-performing, more customer-focused product offering. Drawing on his family’s background in building materials and his own experience with PowerHouse, he set out to source and develop a better mineral wool solution. In 2016, Ross began marketing and selling PowerWool throughout Western Canada, positioning it as a robust, high-quality insulation option for modern building envelopes.

PowerWool today

From those early regional efforts, PowerWool has grown into a brand available across North America, becoming an increasingly recognized name in the mineral wool insulation space. Ross continues to lead as President, sustaining the Power family tradition of excellent customer service, prompt and reliable delivery, and a commitment to high-quality building products. In doing so, PowerWool stands as the latest chapter in a three-generation story of lumber yards, building supply yards, and a family dedicated to helping builders construct better, more durable buildings.
